(UroToday.com) The American Urological Association (AUA) 2025 Annual Meeting, held in Las Vegas, NV, between April 26th and 29th, 2025, was host to a non-invasive bladder cancer interactive poster session. Dr. Pietro Scilipoti presented results from the EuroGemDoce Group evaluating the intravesical efficacy of gemcitabine + docetaxel (Gem/Doce) in high-risk, non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) patients previously treated with BCG.
Data on the efficacy of intravesical Gem/Doce in high-risk (HR) and very high-risk (VHR) NMIBC remains limited. The aim of the study was to report the oncologic and safety outcomes of Gem/Doce in a European multicenter cohort of NMIBC patients.
This study included 75 patients with high-risk NIMBC who had been previously treated with BCG between 2021 and 2024. One-year disease-free survival (DFS), high grade (HG)-DFS, and progression-free survival (PFS) were estimated using Kaplan-Meier curves. Adverse events (AEs) were recorded through medical interviews.
The baseline patient characteristics are summarized below:
At a median follow-up of 9 months, the 1-year DFS, HG-DFS, and PFS rates were as follows:
- 1-year DFS: 73% (95% CI: 62–86%)
- 1-year HG-DFS: 79% (95% CI: 68–91%)
- 1-year PFS: 95% (95% CI: 90–100%)
The adverse events are summarized below:

Based on these results, Dr. Scilipoti concluded that the Gem/Doce intravesical regimen demonstrated promising short-term oncological outcomes and was well-tolerated in this cohort of high- and very high-risk NMIBC patients previously treated with BCG. He argued that prospective studies and randomized trials are needed to define the ideal candidates for Gem/Doce and standardize treatment protocols.
